Preview And Notes- Detroit Red Wings vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

via Brian Hedger at NHL.com,

Season series: The Columbus Blue Jackets haven't scored a non-shootout goal against the Detroit Red Wings, but Columbus won the most recent game on Boone Jenner's shootout goal. Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has saved the 57 shots he faced in the two games. Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky opposed Howard each time and had the shutout win in the second game.

Blue Jackets team scope: Add flu-like symptoms to the long list of health issues for the Columbus, which is on pace to surpass 500 man-games lost. Coach Todd Richards said left wing Nick Foligno didn't play Tuesday in a 4-3 shootout win at the Carolina Hurricanes because he was sick. Richards is hopeful Foligno can play, but the illness appears to be spreading. The Blue Jackets had a smattering of players participate in an optional practice at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday, and centers Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov are questionable. "I don't know if I should call it the flu, but it has some similarities," Richards told The Columbus Dispatch. "A few guys have had it. It's rough. It hits you hard, but it's gone pretty quickly. So we'll see where we're at with those guys on Thursday."

Red Wings team scope: Detroit has 85 points and is solidly in position to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings, third in the Atlantic Division, are seven points ahead of the fourth-place Boston Bruins and five behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for second. Detroit has played three fewer games than Tampa Bay, which makes the goal of catching the Lightning realistic. Since returning from a six-game road trip against Western Conference opponents, the Red Wings are 2-2-0 and have been outscored 3-1 and outshot 30-19 in first period of the past two. They were off Tuesday.
