Season series: The Boston Bruins scored twice on the power play and twice shorthanded in a 5-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on March 8. Bruins forward Daniel Paille scored twice, including one shorthanded, and goalie Niklas Svedberg made 36 saves.

Bruins team scope: Right wing Brett Connolly (finger), acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 2 but has yet to play with the Bruins, practiced Wednesday and is probable, according to CSSNE.com. The Bruins lead the Ottawa Senators by three points for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Forward Milan Lucic scored with 1:09 left in regulation in a 3-2 victory against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday to give the Bruins their third straight win. The Lucic-Ryan Spooner-David Pastrnak line played a big part; Pastrnak scored the equalizer 10:33 into the third. Spooner (14 points) and Pastrnak (12 points) led the Bruins in scoring in March. After missing five weeks with a partial MCL tear, forward David Krejci is slowly regaining his form as his ice time has increased in each of the past five games. He was centering Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson at practice on Wednesday.

Red Wings team scope: The Red Wings lost forward Drew Miller when he sustained two deep lacerations around his right eye in the first period of a 2-1 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. He was at practice Wednesday wearing a plastic guard below his visor and is questionable. Detroit was also without forwards Pavel Datsyuk (undisclosed), Riley Sheahan (upper body) and Erik Cole (upper body); a decision on all three will be made after the morning skate Thursday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Sheahan has missed three straight games and Datsyuk had played the past two after missing the previous five with a lower-body injury. The Red Wings are in third place in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the Bruins.
