from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

Michigan native Carter Mazur is a hockey player with plenty of spit to go with his polish. He can score goals and be as annoying as a bee at a company picnic. Hes been compared to Tyler Bertuzzi.

The Detroit Red Wings officially added him to their pipeline Monday when they signed him to a three-year entry level contract. He also accepted an amateur tryout with the Grand Rapids Griffins, which allows him to finish their season in the American Hockey League. His Red Wings deal will not start until next season.

Mazur, the 70th, is a homegrown talent. He was born in Jackson and played in the Little Caesars program before ending up with the U.S. National Team Development Program and then the University of Denver.

He piled up 75 points in 81 games at Denver over two seasons.

It sounds like Zadina is done for the season, so has he played his last game in the winged wheel?

!!!  That is possible.  If a couple of the old heads are still on their contracts next season as anticipated, maybe a couple of more get assigned to the big club like Mazur.

But the Wings may not give up on his long term potential, whatever it is they see.  He has two more years on contract at $1.825M each.  Can they just assign him to GR and use him to fill in?  Doesnt seem like much of a trade bait.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
