from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
The entire Stars season sort of wrapped itself into one incredibly disappointing performance Saturday night.
Dallas played some of its best hockey of the season and then blew a two-goal lead in the third period en route to a 5-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The loss stretches the Stars’ winless streak to seven games (0-5-2)
While Dallas lost six straight last season and went 1-8-1 in one stretch, they have not gone seven games without a win since the 2008-09 season.
“We’ve got to learn to play with a lead,” said captain Jamie Benn of a string of third-period collapses. “It really shouldn’t change from the first or the second. We got a lead playing the right way, and we need to just learn to play the same way.”...
Coach Lindy Ruff changed his lines and defense pairs and also rolled the dice on back-up goalie Anders Lindback. He was rewarded with exceptional team play, and a strong game from Lindback … until the third period.
“We were playing our best hockey,” Ruff said. “I thought we had great opportunities out of every line…We held them to 11 shots in 30-something minutes. We had point-blank opportunities that could have made it 5-1 or 6-1. But we made a mistake again, and that gave them life.”
