Will The Arizona Coyotes Show Loyalty To Shane Doan?

from Brendan Porter of Five For Howling,

So what do the Arizona Coyotes owe Doan for his loyalty? If they're smart, nothing.

That isn't to say the Coyotes shouldn't at least explore the possibility of making Doan a Coyote for the rest of his career. Though Shane Doan will be 39 next season, he is still a very competent player.

Shane Doan is a good third liner compared to the rest of the NHL. He is a great leader in the locker room. He should receive a contract worthy of both. But he should not be "made whole". He should not receive a contract based on what he may have received in the past.

more and Porter is comparing Doan to the signing of Dan Cleary...

If Daniel Cleary was still an everyday player capable of 35+ points a year I don’t know how many people would be complaining about re-signing him.

Comparing Shane Doan to Daniel Cleary is like comparing apples to road apples.

I don’t understand. Why compare him to Cleary? Cleary isn’t a third line player, hasn’t been a regular in our lineup, and hasn’t put up that many points since 2010-2011. By all means, show loyalty to a player who still has something left in the tank, but for the love of Jobu, don’t insult him by comparing him with Dan Cleary.
