What Do You Think Of The NBC Sports Group Studio Show?

I really can’t comment on the studio show because I only watch when Bob McKenzie or Darren Dreger are on. And usually they talk on topics they have already brought up either on TSN or tweeting.

I’ve got to agree with Mr. Harrington on this. It’s pretty much unwatchable.

It’s very second-rate. Not even close to being at a level a professional sports league should get.

I guess I never thought about it, because I always change the channel or leave the room.

Which now that I think of it shows me that I sub-consciously can’t stand it.

Dreger and McKenzie are the only reasons the show doesn’t fall into disaster mode.

It’s not just the NHL.  NBC’s studio shows for other sports are atrocious as well, and have been for a long time.  Unpolished and hokey.  NBC’s seems still stuck back in 1980 or something.

Mike Harrington is nutty, but he’s not wrong here. Liam McHugh is fine, and Kathryn Tappen is pretty good as well. Obviously Milbury and Roenick are the biggest problems. Milbury especially. Overuse of Jones and Olczyk is also bad. Dreger and McKenzie are consummate professionals and worth their weigh in gold every second they’re on the air.

They really ought to wipe the slate clean and start over with an entirely new crew, but it’s not like hockey is alone in having a bunch of bloviating shitbags on air all the time. (I don’t think I’ve ever read a kind word about the counterparts in the football world.)

I DO NOT care about the studio.

I DO care that Doc Emrick is one of the worst play-by-play guys around.  Certainly the most annoying and one of the least knowledgeable.  Not as homerish as Boston’s guys, and not as boring and homerish as Pittsburgh.  But given it’s a national broadcast that shouldn’t be an issue.

Get him out now.  He takes away from the game.  Olczyk could be better, but he dumbs it down too much on the national stage.

I can change the channel and ignore the studio aspect, but this must be fixed.

I don’t watch it much.  I do like Kathryn Tappen from her NHL TV days.  Liam McHugh is fine.  Roenick is a waste of space.  I don’t know… It doesn’t seem any better or worse than any other U.S. sports studio show.  I think they are all kind of lame and boring.

On this I disagree. NBC (or at least NBCSN) is doing an excellent job with the studio show and coverage of the English Premier League.

Otherwise I agree, in particular NBC nhl coverage is third rate. High schoolers do a better studio show of their HS football games than NBC does with nhl.

NBC can start by getting rid of Milbury and Olczyk, since they are unprofessional and Red Wing
haters.  mad
