Videos- Ryan Johansen Hit On Marc-Edouard Vlasic And Joe Pavelski/Johansen Fight

from Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News,

The Sharks’ game against the Predators became testy after Marc-Edouard Vlasic was hit and knocked out of the game by Ryan Johansen in the third period. One fight and a handful of roughing penalties ensued before the Sharks finished off a 4-1 win....

Johansen said he was going after Pavelski after he felt the Sharks captain delivered a questionable hit in the Predators’ zone.

“I actually went at him because he hit me in the same spot, a blind side hit, boarding probably,” Johansen said. “So I just didn’t like the hit. I didn’t think anyone would come after me because it was a clean hit (on Vlasic), just unlucky.”...

Vlasic’s head appeared to make hard contact with the glass and he stayed on the ice on all fours for several moments before he was assisted off. He had 15:55 of ice time up until the time he was injured.

“I hope he’s OK, first of all. I totally thought it was clean. I would never, ever try and hit someone in a bad position,” Johansen said. “I felt like I was just getting body position on him, but I really hope he’s OK because you never want to see anybody go down.”

Below, watch the hit on Vlasic and the Pavelski/Johansen fight...

You can see vlasic putting his head in the cross hairs trying to pull the puck towards him.

Clean hit all day.

Not sure what Vlassic was doing with his head down for that long…he had a lot of time to himself on the boards.

None the less, ballsy for Pavelski to answer to Johansen who is bigger than JP.  If I’m a Sharks fan, I’d be nervous to see him fighting Johansen.

Nothing wrong with that hit, and the typical response nowadays for it. Its a shame the NHL wont enforce the instigator penalty more often to end fights like this.

I was at the game and it was hard to get a clear look at the hit live, but after seeing the replay I don’t have a problem with the hit.  I also don’t have a problem with Pavs hit on Johansen.  I’m not sure what instigator penalty you wanted to see, Johansen was the one who came after Pavs and he was willing to drop the gloves.  I doubt giving an instigator to Johansen would “end fights like this” as Johansen was already willing to take himself out of the game when losing 1-3 in the 3rd.

Johansen hits Vlasic.  Pavelski hits Johansen.  Johansen fights Pavelski.  Good hockey as far as I’m concerned.
