Video- Will The Players Adjust To The Slashing Enforcement?

What do you thinkg of this call on JVR?

Okay with it or is this one example of calling it too tight?

Every game has become two teams knocking the puck back and forth for a few mins until the refs make a decision.  I thought the last season’s playoff was nearly unwatchable due to the refs impacted every aspect of the game, and the league somehow found a way to involve them more.  Plus, they’re just calling slashing more often, every time a defensive stick leaves the ice, and calling other penalties less frequently - which is actually worse!

I think if they keep this up, the players should all suit up in those bubble suits and play that way.  This is becoming a non-contact sport.

Its not even that its non contacts.  Its not hockey.  The whole game has become “just manage the puck until you get a power play”.

Maybe that’s the NHL’s new strategy.  Instead of bigger rinks, smaller goalie equipment, bigger nets…they call more penalties resulting in more Power Plays, which increases scoring.  Lol.

I think that is actually the strategy.

They can call the game however they want as far as I’m concerned, because this first week of hockey has been way, way more entertaining than just about any non-playoff hockey I’ve watched in years.

I thought i saw goal scoring was down after a week compared to last season.

To each his own though.  I just feel like its become less about tension between two teams and more about tensions between the players and refs.  They just have way too much control over the outcome of a game right now.  The rule book is changed depending on which former player is joining the department of player safety this season and the video reviews, originally made to take the subjectivity out of objective calls has become even more subjective.  Then again, this is the NHL, a league that invented a rule where you couldn’t put a skate in the crease and cut out hundreds of goals then ignored their own rule on a goal that decided the stanley cup.
