I didn’t think the hit was bad other than it was a stupid interference penalty.

Burakovsky with an awful boarding penalty to start things off.  Tom Wilson with a Tom Wilson later in the game.  George Parros probably gave Wilson a stack of chips at the casino after the game, so I don’t expect anything to happen.  Forget whether the hit was clean or not though.  It was a stupid play, took a penalty, and even though they didn’t score on it, it kills your momentum and you end up losing the game.  Just selfish for a finals game.  But that’s the caps.  They’d shoot it in their own net if they knew it would end up on a highlight reel.

A late hit isn’t clean.

The more I rewatch it, the more I think, if the hit is clean, and the other hits are “clean”, and the NHL has no connection to CTE, then why does the player getting hit have to go to the room after it?  Doesn’t seem fair to penalize the victim by making them go through the protocol.  Obviously this was interference so Wilson got his two mins, but when you step back its a little absurd that the player getting hit is the one getting penalized.

No less absurd than thinking that getting proper medical treatment is penalizing the victim.

The validity of treatment isn’t what I’m calling absurd, although your commitment to endless contrarianism is noble.  Every player that gets hit, even player deemed healthy and able to return to the game, has to sit out while the aggressor often goes unpunished.  Is player-to-player contact is also the only situation where a player has to go to through the protocol.  I don’t think they force you off the ice if you lose an edge and fall into the boards head first.  And surely, any player can remove themselves at any point.  Just seems hypocritical on the league’s part.  And absurd.

So because the refs didn’t see a play in real time, the player lying on the ice with a scrambled brain shouldn’t get checked out by team doctors because that’s punishment?

Sorry for being so contrarian in the face of all the people who think that players shouldn’t have to get checked out when they get blindsided.

Because that’s what everyone thinks, right? That players should just be allowed to play moments after they’ve wobbled and stumbled their way back to the bench after being blindsided.

Right?

I don’t think they force you off the ice if you lose an edge and fall into the boards head first.

Oh good, it’s been a while since I had to read a thorough BS straw man argument!

Care to cite a single example of this? Just one?

No?

No, of course not, because it’s BS and you know full well that it is.

Again, I’m not saying players shouldn’t go off the ice or through the protocol after a hit.  I’m saying its stupid that players like Tom Wilson can continue to go after players with a less than 50/50 shot at being penalized while the player he hits is 100% leaving the ice whether he wants to or not.  It makes sense for Tom Wilson to go after a guy because he knows the guy is out of the game, while at worst he’ll get 5 mins.

Honestly, if a guy wants to leave the game after turning his head too fast or if he wants to stay in the game after taking an elbow to his face is irrelevant to me.  The DoPS makes minimal effort in the area of player safety and so do the players.

Right, there are no examples because they don’t.  Thank you for your help.
