If they suspend him it will make the two minute minor call look even worse

The SportsNet guys were saying that DoPS HAS to suspend him now because of the 2 min call. The league obvz has NO problem showing up their own refs in public.

“The Meal” had a good catch on the original post,
copying the relevant rules. I read it quickly last night but it does seem
that *for some baffling reason* there is no provision for a 5 min major for
an illegal check to the head. If true, he should have gotten 2 mins and a match penalty.

And then perhaps another game suspension at least.

It is so ridiculous that any suspension would benefit the next opponent
rather than the team he made a intentional dangerous play against.

I know these rules have to be laboriously hammered out and compromised over
but some of the seemingly obvious omissions and oversights in the rules combined
error and inconsistency by the refs create ridiculous decisions that impact important games.

There is no 5 min provision for a check to the head (because… this is the NHL? I guess?) but they could have called 5 and a game for interference or roughing. That he stayed in that game is the biggest act of cowardice by an officiating crew in these playoffs. That said, it’s almost hard to blame them, since the league publicly shamed the crew that called The Penalty on Vegas and decided not to use them any more in the playoffs, despite being one of the most experienced crews in the game.

Stuff like this makes me appreciate the tough position the officials are in when calling a game.  If _we_ are frustrated there was no major call on that hit, how do you think the rule-book-knowledgeable referees feel about things?!?  Ugh.
