Who would have guessed that the Devils would be in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and third in the Metropolitan Division midway through November?
Not many.
But that is exactly where they are after Saturday night's 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins before a sellout crowd at Prudential Center.
"We're in a good spot," goalie Cory Schneider said as the Devils are set to begin a three-game western Canada road trip. "This is going to be a challenging part of our schedule and I think so far we've responded well.
"But it's so fleeting in this league. All of a sudden you lose two or three in a row and you give some overtime points and you don't feel so good about yourselves. I think we've understood that. You can lose one, but you can't lose two. We've done a good job bouncing back. Hopefully we can maintain that mentality. This road trip will be a good test for us."
