The Pressure Is On Tomas Tatar

from Joey Alfieri of NBC Sports,

The Golden Knights aren’t up against the salary cap, but they still have to be concerned about Tatar $5.3 million per season for the next three years. He’s currently the third-highest paid player on the team behind Paul Stastny and Marc-Andre Fleury. He also has a no-trade clause. There’s clearly going to be some pressure on him to produce more than he did a year ago.

That’s not to say that he can’t have a rebound season because he definitely can. It just depends on what your expectations are for him. If the Golden Knights are looking for him to score 20 goals and 45-50 points, that’s realistic. If he does anything more than that, it would be considered a bonus. If he continues to struggle, they’ll be stuck with that contract for a while.

Tatar came in at a really rough time, especially as a player who has been on a single team and really only played under one system since being drafted.  He didn’t put-out like they had hoped from the start, so when the playoffs began he was sort of the odd-man out.  And that made perfect sense; why mess with a good team that is clicking?

I think he’ll be a 25+ goal scorer with that team.  He might turn out to be more of an assist guy, too.  He’ll do well for them, especially with a few more months under his belt to learn their system.

Agreed!
I think he’ll be a good top-6 forward for them.
He’s still probably overpaid (another Kenny Holland special!), but if he can hit 25/25 numbers, it’s not a hard cap hit to swallow.

He’s expected to start the year on the 2nd line with Stastny and Tuch.  I think he’ll be just fine.

Tatar was always overrated.  Glad we got rid of him.

Agreed. I like him as a human, and was always happy when he did well. But with him and Nyquist it just seemed like there was some intangible missing… never could put my finger on it, but he was an advanced stats darling, so I always just assumed it was me.
