Ryan Johansen Heading Back To Columbus After Taking Ill This Morning

from Shawn Mitchell of Puck-Rakers,

Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen became ill this morning in Denver and will not play tonight against the Colorado Avalanche.

Johansen was slated to fly home to Columbus on a commercial flight earlier today, accompanied by assistant trainer Nates Goto.

“He just didn’t feel well today,” coach John Tortorella said. “We knew he wasn’t going to play. He just didn’t feel well enough. When we leave (Denver tonight) , we get home at I think 3:30, 4 (a.m.). We wanted to get him home, take care of him and get him evaluated as quickly as possible so we can get an idea of where we’re going to go with it.”

Johansen was removed the Blue Jackets’ top line during a 3-2 loss at Minnesota on Thursday and was later benched for the final 6:10 of the third period. According to a New York Post report on Friday, Tortorella told Johnansen that he was out of shape after the first period.

“That’s the first I’ve heard of that,” Tortorella said. “I’m watching. Listen, I talked to Todd (Richards) during his (training camp) and I know they had a very good camp. I don’t think conditioning is a problem.  I think…it’s just a mindset, in trying to get back to (players) feeling good about themselves is the biggest problem.”
