Patrice Bergeron Needs Protection

from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,

Patrice Bergeron got roughed up again Wednesday night, and again the response from his Black-and-Gold peer group, the team he captains, was … OK, let me put this in the politically correct terms of NHL 2021 and call it, uh, not acceptable.

Now that we’ve dispensed with the soft-speak, let’s be blunt: It was an out-and-out disgrace.

Someone, anyone not named Bergeron, had to step up and give Vancouver defenseman Kyle Burroughs a smashmouth reminder that there’s still enough old-time Original Six hockey in the Bruins brand that no one messes with the team captain, especially one with Bergeron’s legacy of service and commitment, and especially a Bergeron already wearing a cumbersome face shield after having his nose rearranged by an even more egregious cheap shot the other night in Nashville.

But, nothing.

Nothing … for … Bergeron.

It has come to that. What in the name of John Wensink is going on around here?

He is lucky to have enjoyed a career where he has been protected the entire time with guys like Lucic, Chara, Thornton, Ritchie, etc.

Is Marchand still suspended? Assuming yes - then you should be mad at him for being a dipshat and getting dumb suspensions instead of being on the ice to keep the flies off Bergeron.

Any team employing Marchand should keep their mouths shut about cheap shots.

If the Isles have fallen and cannot get up - then maybe a return of Big Z to the Bruins might solve that issue?  At league min, the cap hit is not bad.

Ask # 11 of Nashville (Trenin)  about Big Z after his face was re-arranged last night.  (# 11 had last laugh as their team won)

Also, UBS is EXCELLENT when you get there - but the transport situation is UGLY.  Such to the point where I may choose at times just to stay home if the team is out of the money…..the train is NOT RELIABLE and the parking is a disaster SO FAR ( it takes time to figure that out - so maybe by mid JAN - it will improve.

Maybe it would be wise to keep Witter on the roster hear for a while and not try to send him down through waivers. Hope he is playing tonight.

That makes too much sense. He’s needed out there badly. In spite of some players that are willing to go at it, the Wings are soft. Witter is a big bruising deterrent.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!
