from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch,
The Rangers took a three-goal lead only 5:48 into the game and cruised to a 5-2 victory in their home opener at Madison Square Garden.
“We couldn’t get ahold of the game, the emotion,” Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. “It led to a lot of mistakes.
“We gave up 2-on-1s and five breakaways, counting (a Rick Nash) penalty shot. That’s not good hockey when you’re doing that.”
The Blue Jackets, who allowed eight unanswered goals going back to Friday’s game before Ryan Johansen and Boone Jenner scored in the third, are 0-2 for the fourth time in franchise history.
All that optimism, chest-thumping and swagger that swelled during the preseason appears to have faded into confusion and a waning confidence.
