A baby boom at McMaster's Medical Centre has some staff wondering what, if anything, the blip could have to do with last year's NHL lockout.
Dr. Patricia Smith, deputy chief of obstetrics, says it's difficult to draw a link between the hospital's bustling labour and delivery department and the league's labour strife.
Nonetheless, the number of births spiked in May and June — around nine months after the pro hockey lockout began.
"We have been busier over the last three months," Smith said. "Now whether that's linked at all to the lockout, I don't know."...
"I think it's a little simplistic to say that when men don't have hockey, they have sex," Smith said. "But that's what people tend to say — they look back nine months whenever we tend to have a bit of a boom and see what happened."
