As the CBC notes, the NHL is doing things a little differently during this lockout-shortened season in terms of handing out hardware:
In this lockout-shortened season, the National Hockey League first did away with the all-star game and now the one-night awards show from Las Vegas, replacing it with a pair of live television specials during the Cup final.
On Friday at 5 p.m. ET, the winners of the Bill Masterton Trophy, Frank J. Selke Trophy, King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Jack Adams Award, General Manager of the Year Award, Mark Messier Leadership Award and NHL Foundation Award (charitable work) will be announced as part of a one-hour show.
According to USA Today, the first awards show will only air on the NHL Network in the U.S. (NBCSN has Pro Football Talk scheduled for 5 PM EDT) and the NHL's media website has a conference call scheduled with the winners at that time, so who knows, maybe Gary Bettman and Bill Daly will throw confetti and sing, "Happy Award Day to You" or something...
Saturday’s coverage on Hockey Night in Canada’s Scotiabank Hockey Tonight and live streamed at CBCSports.ca will be begin at 7 p.m. ET. A live chat with fans also will be held at that time.
Winners of the Hart, Calder, Norris and Vezina trophies will be named along with the recipient of the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player as voted by members of the NHL Players’ Association.
NBCSN will probably show the winners as part of its 1-hour pre-game show on Saturday.
