Patrick Marleau (1-1—2) scored the 100th game-winning goal of his NHL career to help the Maple Leafs snap a three-game slide (0-3-0) and improve to 8-5-0 this season. Marleau became the eighth player in NHL history (second active) to score 100 career game-winning goals.

DEVILS BLANK CANUCKS IN BOYLE’S RETURN TO ACTION
On the night Brian Boyle played his first game since being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (15:19 TOI), Cory Schneider denied all 37 shots he faced to help the Devils improve to 9-2-0 this season. New Jersey won nine of its first 11 games in a season for the first time in franchise history.

* The Devils, the only team without a road loss of any kind this season (5-0-0), won each of their first five road games in a season for the second time in franchise history (9-0-0 in 2009-10).

"I've loved this game, it's given me so much. The relationships, the people, some of my closest friends I have met through hockey, some of my best memories with my family, my parents, my dad were at hockey games, whether I was playing or watching. I am so blessed to be able to do this, and we all are."Brian Boyle

LIGHTNING, BLUES, KINGS LOOK TO CONTINUE STRONG STARTS
The top three clubs in the NHL – the Lightning, Blues and Kings – look to continue their strong starts to the season:

* The Lightning (10-2-1, 21 points) aim to extend their best start to a season in franchise history when they take on the Rangers at Amalie Arena. Elias notes that Lightning forwards Steven Stamkos (6-18—24) and Nikita Kucherov (13-8—21) were the first pair of teammates to each record at least 20 points in the month of October since 1995-96, when Eric Lindros (10-11—21) and John LeClair (9-11—20) did so with the Flyers.

* The Blues (10-2-1, 21 points), the only team without a home loss of any kind this season (5-0-0), host the Flyers at Scottrade Center. Elias notes that St. Louis can match its franchise record for consecutive home wins to begin a season, last achieved in 2010-11 (6-0-0).

* The Kings (9-2-1, 19 points) square off with the Maple Leafs at Staples Center. Los Angeles looks to equal its franchise record for fewest games to register 10 wins in a season (13 GP), a mark set in 1980-81 (10-2-1) and matched in 2010-11 (10-3-0).
