NOTES FROM THE 2015 NHL DRAFT
A total of 211 players from 14 countries were selected at the 2015 NHL Draft, which concluded on Saturday at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.

^ There were 73 defensemen selected in the draft (34.6%), the most among all positions. That was followed by 51 centers (24.2%), 34 left wings (16.1%), 29 right wings (13.7%) and 24 goaltenders (11.4%).

^ The breakdown of selections by birthplace: Canada (79), United States (55), Sweden (19), Russia (17), Finland (13), Czech Republic (11), Slovakia (5), Switzerland (4), Latvia (3), Belarus (1), China (1), Germany (1), Netherlands (1) and Ukraine (1).

^ The WHL led all leagues with 34 players selected in the draft, followed by the OHL (31), USHL (31) and QMJHL (30). (Note: USHL total includes 11 Under-18 players selected from USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program.)

^ The Bruins led all teams with 10 picks. Seven other teams made nine selections – the Blue Jackets, Coyotes, Flyers, Hurricanes, Lightning, Maple Leafs and Sharks.

SONG, ISLANDERS MAKE HISTORY
Andong Song, a 6’0” forward who was born in Beijing, became the first Chinese-born player selected in the NHL Draft when the Islanders picked him in the sixth round (172nd overall).

“I am the first,” he said. “Hopefully what I want to do is rally people behind me. Not focus on myself but do something good for Chinese hockey.”

NHL TIES AND BLOODLINES
Several players with NHL ties and bloodlines were selected in the 2015 NHL Draft:

Dylan Strome (selected 3rd overall by Arizona): His brother, Ryan, was drafted fifth overall by the Islanders in 2011 and finished third on the team with 17-33—50 in 2014-15.

Jake DeBrusk (selected 14th overall by Boston): His father, Louie, played 401 regular-season NHL games with the Oilers, Lightning, Coyotes and Blackhawks from 1991-03 and currently serves as a hockey analyst for Rogers Sportsnet.

Jansen Harkins (selected 47th overall by Winnipeg): His father, Todd, is general manager of the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League and was drafted 42nd overall by the Flames in 1988. Todd played 48 games in the NHL with the Flames and Whalers and also appeared in the movie “Miracle” and reality television show “Making the Cut.” His uncle, Brett, also played in the NHL with the Bruins, Panthers and Blue Jackets.

Rasmus Andersson (selected 53rd overall by Calgary): His father, Peter, was drafted 73rd overall by the Rangers in 1983 and played 47 career NHL games with the Rangers and Panthers.

Julius Nattinen (selected 59th overall by Anaheim): His brother, Joonas, was drafted 65th overall by the Canadiens in 2009 and skated for MODO in the Swedish Hockey League in 2014-15.

Kyle Capobianco (selected 63rd overall by Arizona): His uncle, Randy Exelby, was a professional goaltender who appeared in two NHL games, one with the Canadiens in 1988-89 and one with the Oilers in 1989-90.

Andrew Nielsen (selected 65th overall by Toronto): His uncle, Mike Moller, was drafted 41st overall by the Sabres in 1980 and played 134 career NHL games with the Sabres and Oilers.

Thomas Schemitsch (selected 88th overall by Florida): His brother, Geoffrey, was drafted 96th overall by the Lightning in 2010 and played for Acadia University in 2014-15.

Dennis Gilbert (selected 91st overall by Chicago): His uncle, Mike, is vice president of public and community relations for the Sabres.

Adam Musil (selected 94th overall by St. Louis): His father, Frantisek (Frank), was drafted 38th overall by the North Stars in 1983 and skated in 797 career NHL games with the North Stars, Flames, Senators and Oilers. His brother, David, was drafted 31st overall by the Oilers in 2011 and skated in four games with the club in 2014-15. His uncle, Bobby Holik, is a two-time Stanley Cup champion.

Christian Wolanin (selected 107th overall by Ottawa): His father, Craig, was drafted third overall by the Devils in 1985 and skated in 695 NHL games with the Devils, Nordiques, Avalanche, Lightning and Maple Leafs. He was a member of Colorado’s Stanley Cup-winning team in 1995-96.

Parker Wotherspoon (selected 112th overall by NY Islanders): His brother, Tyler, was drafted 57th overall by the Flames in 2011.

Brad Morrison (selected 113th overall by NY Rangers): His father, Doug, was drafted 36th overall by the Bruins in 1979 and played 23 games with the club from 1979-82. His uncle Mark was drafted 51st overall by the Rangers in 1981. His uncle Garth Butcher was drafted 10th overall by the Canucks in 1981 and skated in 897 career NHL games with the Canucks, Blues, Nordiques and Maple Leafs. His brother-in-law is current Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges.

Caleb Jones (selected 117th overall by Edmonton): His brother, Seth, was drafted fourth overall by the Predators in 2013 and has been a regular on the club’s blue line the past two seasons, registering 14-38—52 in 159 regular-season contests. His father,Ronald (Popeye), played 11 seasons in the NBA with Dallas, Toronto, Boston, Denver, Washington and Golden State.

Luke Stevens (selected 126th overall by Carolina): His father, Kevin, won the Stanley Cup two times with the Penguins and played in 874 career NHL games with the Penguins, Bruins, Kings (who drafted him 108th overall in 1983), Rangers and Flyers.

David Kase (selected 128th overall by Philadelphia): His brother, Ondrej, was drafted 205th overall by the Ducks in 2014.

Chase Pearson (selected 140th overall by Detroit): His father, Scott, was drafted sixth overall by the Maple Leafs in 1988 and skated in 292 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs, Nordiques, Oilers, Sabres and Islanders.

Ryan Pilon (selected 147th overall by NY Islanders): His uncle, Rich, played 631 regular-season games over 14 NHL seasons with the Islanders, Rangers and Blues.

Christopher Wilkie (selected 162nd overall by Florida): His father, David, won the Memorial Cup with the Kamloops Blazers in 1992; was a first-round pick (20th overall) of the Canadiens in 1992; and played 167 career NHL games with the Canadiens, Lightning and Rangers.

Jack Becker (selected 195th overall by Boston): His father, Russ, was drafted 228th overall by the Islanders in 1984 and his cousin, Aaron Miskovich, was drafted 133rd overall by the Avalanche in 1997.

Adam Marsh (selected 200th overall by Detroit): His father, Peter, was drafted 29th overall by the Penguins in 1976 and played 278 NHL games with the Jets and Blackhawks.

Matteo Gennaro (selected 203rd overall by Winnipeg): His cousin, Fernando Pisani, was drafted 195th overall by the Oilers in 1996 and recorded 87-82—169 in 462 career NHL games with the Oilers and Blackhawks.

Jack Sadek (selected 204th overall by Minnesota): His cousin, Brady Skjei, was drafted 28th overall by the Rangers in 2012.

DAY 2 TRADES
The complete list of trades from the second day of the 2015 NHL Draft:

* The Ducks traded forward Kyle Palmieri to the Devils for the 41st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Avalanche traded the 31st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Sharks for the 39th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

* The Devils traded the 36th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Senators for the 42nd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and New Jersey’s option of Ottawa’s fourth-round pick in 2015 (109th overall) or fourth-round pick in 2016.

* The Canucks traded goaltender Eddie Lack to the Hurricanes for the 66th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a seventh-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Sharks traded goaltender Antti Niemi to the Stars for the 193rd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Ducks traded forward Emerson Etem and the 41st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Rangers for forward Carl Hagelin and the 59th and 179th overall picks in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Rangers traded goaltender Cam Talbot and the 209th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Oilers for the 57th, 79th and 184th overall picks in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Rangers traded the 57th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Capitals for the 62nd and 113th overall picks in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Coyotes traded the 60th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Flames for the 76th and 83rd overall picks in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Flyers traded the 99th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Kings for the 104th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Maple Leafs traded forward Brad Ross and the 107th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Oilers for defenseman Martin Marincin.

* The Oilers traded forward Travis Ewanyk and the 107th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Senators for defenseman Eric Gryba.

* The Canucks traded defenseman Patrick McNally to the Sharks for the 210th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* The Ducks traded defenseman James Wisniewski to Hurricanes for goaltenderAnton Khudobin.

* The Bruins traded the 135th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Wild for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Panthers traded the 147th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Islanders for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Lightning traded the 208th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Oilers for a seventh-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

* The Blackhawks traded goaltender Antti Raanta to the Rangers for forward Ryan Haggerty.

* The Coyotes traded forward Sam Gagner and a conditional pick in the 2016 or 2017 NHL Draft to the Flyers for defenseman Nicklas Grossmann and the contract of defenseman Chris Pronger.

LOOSE PUCKS
Forward Kyle Connor, who was selected by the Jets in the first round (17th overall),shared his excitement via a blog on NHL.com . . . The Sharks signed forward Melker Karlsson, goaltender Troy Grosenick and defenseman Karl Stollery to contract extensions . . . ICYMI: Travis Konecny, who was selected by the Flyers in the first round (24th overall), received the inaugural E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence.
