BLUES COOL OFF FLAMES TO CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT . . .
Four players registered 1-1—2 (Patrik Berglund, Jori Lehtera, Jaden Schwartz andPaul Stastny) to lead the Blues to a sweep of their three-game season series with the Flames, helping the team clinch its fourth consecutive playoff berth and 39th in franchise history.


* At 47-23-7 (101 points), the Blues moved within two points of the idle Predators (47-22-9, 103 points) for first place in the Central Division. St. Louis holds one game in hand, but Nashville owns the ROW tiebreaker (NSH: 41, STL: 38).

* The Blues reached the 100-point milestone for the seventh time in franchise history, including three of the past four seasons (also 2011-12: 109 and 2013-14: 111).

* Schwartz (70 GP) set a career high with his 58th point of the season, surpassing his 56-point campaign in 2013-14 (80 GP). He also matched a career high with his 25th goal, first achieved last season.

* Stastny finished the season series with 1-4—5 in three contests against the Flames. He has 20-31—51 in 43 career games vs. CGY, his most goals, assists and points against any opponent.

* Jake Allen made 17 saves to improve to 20-6-4 this season, including a 3-0-1 record in his last four decisions. Elias says his 20 wins are the most by a rookie goaltender in Blues history, surpassing the previous mark set by Brent Johnson in 2000-01 (19 W). Allen’s 20 victories also share the League lead among rookies this season (w/ Michael Hutchinson).

* Teammate Brian Elliott (24-14-3) also has registered 20 wins this season. This marks the second time in Blues history that two goaltenders each have earned at least 20 victories in the same season. The lone other time: 2011-12, when Jaroslav Halak (26-12-7) and Elliott (23-10-4) shared the William M. Jennings Trophy.

* The Blues improved to 6-0-1 in their last seven meetings with the Flames dating to April 25, 2013. They also have won six straight home games against Calgary dating to Oct. 10, 2011.

. . . BLACKHAWKS KEEP PACE, ALSO LOCK UP POSTSEASON BERTH
Jonathan Toews scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period to power the Blackhawks to their third straight victory and seventh consecutive playoff berth (60th in franchise history).


* At 47-24-6 (100 points), the Blackhawks kept pace with the Blues (47-23-7, 101 points) in the Central Division, where the top three clubs are separated by three points. Chicago trails St. Louis by one point for second place and home-ice advantage in the First Round of the playoffs; the teams meet two more times this season, on Sunday at CHI and Thursday at STL (CHI: 2-1-0, STL: 1-2-0).


* The Blackhawks reached the 100-point milestone for the 11th time in franchise history, including five of the past seven seasons (also 2008-09: 104, 2009-10: 112, 2011-12: 101 and 2013-14: 107).

* Toews recorded his sixth game-winning goal of the season, tied for the team lead (w/Brandon Saad) and two off his career high established in 2010-11. He also shares first on the club with 26-38—64 this season (w/ Patrick Kane: 27-37—64).

* Marcus Kruger (1-1—2) posted his second multi-point performance of the season (also Dec. 11 at BOS: 0-2—2). Per Elias, the Blackhawks are 13-1-1 in the 15 games in which he has recorded at least one point in 2014-15.

* Corey Crawford stopped 35 shots, including all 25 he faced over the final two periods, to pick up his 32nd win of the season (54 GP) – one shy of his career high set in 2010-11 (57 GP).

* The Blackhawks improved to 3-0-2 in their last five home games against the Canucks dating to March 21, 2012.

MILLER, RANGERS WRAP UP METROPOLITAN DIVISION TITLE
J.T. Miller scored the tiebreaking goal just 55 seconds after the Wild completed their comeback from a 2-0 deficit, leading the Rangers to their second straight win and eighth division title in franchise history.

* At 49-21-7 (105 points), the Rangers moved within two points of the idle Ducks (50-22-7, 107 points) for first place in the NHL standings, where the top seven teams are separated by seven points:


* The Rangers set franchise records with their 26th road win and 54th road point of the season (26-11-2). They pace the NHL in both categories, including an 8-1-0 mark in their last nine such games.

* The Rangers’ 49 overall wins are tied for the fourth-most in franchise history, three behind the record of 52 set in 1993-94 when the team won its last Stanley Cup.

* Miller posted his third game-winning goal of 2014-15 (also Dec. 13 at VAN and March 11 at WSH). He has 10-12—22 this season (53 GP) after totaling 5-5—10 in his first 56 career outings.

* Rick Nash moved into sole possession of second place in the NHL with his 41st goal of the season, equaling a career high established in 2003-04 (w/ CBJ).

* Ryan McDonagh added a pair of assists, while Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves to improve to 27-12-3 this season.

* The Rangers improved to 18-5-5 this season against Western Conference opponents, picking up points in 11 of their past 13 such games (9-2-2).

OVECHKIN SETS MORE FRANCHISE RECORDS AS CAPITALS CLIMB STANDINGS
Alex Ovechkin and Joel Ward both scored twice in regulation and Troy Brouwerpotted the lone goal in the fourth round of the shootout to propel the Capitals to their third consecutive victory.

* At 43-25-10 (96 points), the Capitals leapfrogged the Islanders (45-27-6, 96 points) and Penguins (42-24-11, 95 points) for second place in the Metropolitan Division. The three clubs are separated by one point, with Pittsburgh holding one game in hand. Though Washington and New York are tied in points and ROW, the Capitals sit in second place by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker (WSH: 2-0-2, NYI: 2-1-1).


* Ovechkin notched his 473rd and 474th career goals to move past Peter Bondra (472) and into sole possession of first place in Capitals history. He also owns the franchise records for power-play goals (175), game-winning goals (80), overtime goals (15) and points (893).

* Per Elias, only two other active players hold their club’s record for goals: New Jersey’sPatrik Elias (404) and San Jose’s Patrick Marleau (455).

* Ovechkin also set a career high and franchise record with his 15th multi-goal game of the season. He now has 100 such performances in his career (756 GP); Elias says he is the sixth-fastest player in NHL history to achieve that feat, behind Wayne Gretzky (452 GP), Mike Bossy (553 GP), Mario Lemieux (553 GP), Brett Hull (561) and Jari Kurri(685).

* Ovechkin recorded both of his goals via the power play; he leads the NHL with 52 goals overall and 24 power-play strikes this season, equaling a career high established in 2013-14.

* Ovechkin, who has scored in three straight games (5-1—6), also is tied for the second in the NHL with 52-27—79, including 36-15—51 in his last 42 outings dating to Dec. 29.

* Ward notched his eighth career multi-goal game and second of the season (also Oct. 25 at CGY: 2-0—2).

* Braden Holtby made 23 saves – and denied all four shootout attempts he faced – to pick up his 39th win of the season, two shy of the franchise record set by Olie Kolzig in 1999-00.

* John Carlson added three assists, matching a career high set Dec. 5, 2011 at FLA. It stood as his fifth career three-point performance and second of the season (also Dec. 2vs. VAN: 2-1—3).

EIGHT GOALS LIFT KINGS BACK INTO POSTSEASON PICTURE
The Kings scored eight goals, their highest single-game output since April 1, 2010 vs. VAN (8-3 W), to snap a two-game skid overall and extend their point streak against the Oilers to 14 games dating to Jan. 15, 2012 (11-0-3).

* At 38-25-14 (90 points), the Kings leapfrogged the idle Jets (39-26-12, 90 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They also moved within one point of the Flames (42-29-7, 91 points) – who lost in regulation – for third place in the Pacific Division.


* Marian Gaborik registered 2-1—3 for his fourth multi-goal game and second three-point performance of the season (also Dec. 18 vs. STL: 2-1—3).

* Jeff Carter also scored two goals, his fifth such game of the season. He leads the club with 28 goals overall, his most in one campaign since 2010-11 (36 w/ PHI).

* Drew Doughty (1-1—2), Anze Kopitar (0-2—2) and Justin Williams (0-2—2) also posted multi-point performances. Dustin Brown, Jordan Nolan and Robyn Regehrsupplied the other goals.

* Jonathan Quick made 28 saves to improve to 14-1-5 in 20 career appearances vs. EDM (1.56 GAA, .939 SV%, 1 SO).

* The Kings also won their sixth consecutive home game against the Oilers dating to April 2, 2012. The teams meet one more time this season, on Tuesday at EDM.

BRUINS (AGAIN) RALLY TO IMPROVE PLAYOFF POSITIONING . . .
Down 2-0 in the third period, the Bruins scored three unanswered goals – including the tiebreaker by Zach Trotman with 2:08 remaining in regulation (his first NHL goal) – to pick up their fourth consecutive victory over the Red Wings and fourth straight win overall.

* At 40-25-13 (93 points), the Bruins tied the Red Wings – in terms of points – for third place in the Atlantic Division. Detroit, however, has played one fewer game.


* Via Elias, the Bruins overcame a multi-goal deficit in the third period to win in regulation for the first time since Jan. 10, 2011 at PIT. The team also overcame a (one-goal) third-period deficit on Tuesday, rallying to beat the Panthers 3-2.

* Trotman, a seventh-round selection (210th overall) by the Bruins in the 2010 NHL Draft, posted his first career goal in his 25th game. “Very excited. I don’t think I could put it into words. It was awesome,” said Trotman, who played college hockey at Michigan’s Lake Superior State and had a group of family and friends in attendance. “It was surreal. I didn’t believe it at first.”

* Carl Soderberg (1-1—2) started the rally with his 13th goal of the season; he has 2-4—6 during a four-game assist/point streak. Ryan Spooner collected one assist to extend his point streak to five contests (3-3—6).

* Brett Connolly and Reilly Smith both added two assists. Smith recorded his 100th NHL point (36-64—100 in 199 GP).

* Tuukka Rask made 35 saves to earn his 33rd win of the season, three shy of his career high established in 2013-14.

. . . WIERCIOCH, SENATORS EDGE LIGHTNING IN OVERTIME . . .
Patrick Wiercioch scored the winning goal with 16.9 seconds remaining in overtime to power the Senators to their second straight victory and a split of their four-game season series with the Lightning (OTT: 2-2-0, TBL: 2-0-2).

* At 39-26-12 (90 points), the Senators remained three points behind the Bruins (40-25-13, 93 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa holds one game in hand, but Boston owns the ROW tiebreaker (BOS: 37, OTT: 33).

* Wiercioch recorded his second career game-winning goal and first in overtime.

* Mark Stone became the fifth rookie to reach the 20-goal milestone this season, and second on the Senators (also Mike Hoffman: 26). He ranks third among first-year players with 20-36—56 overall.

* Per Elias, Stone and Hoffman are the second pair of Senators rookies to each score at least 20 goals in the same season. The others: Alexei Yashin (30) and Alexandre Daigle (20), who both did so in 1993-94.

* Andrew Hammond made 28 saves to improve to 16-1-1 with a 1.80 goals-against average, .940 save percentage and two shutouts this season. He has allowed two or fewer goals in 15 of his 18 career starts.

* Kyle Turris collected two assists, giving him 22-35—57 this season (77 GP) – one point shy of his career high established in 2013-14 (26-32—58 in 82 GP).

. . . MILESTONE PERFORMANCES HELP PANTHERS KEEP PACE
Roberto Luongo made 31 saves – but fell 1:19 shy of recording a shutout – to pick up his 400th NHL victory and backstop the Panthers to a sweep of their three-game season series with the Hurricanes (a first in franchise history).

* At 36-27-15 (87 points), the Panthers remained six points behind the Bruins (40-25-13, 93 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference:


* Luongo became the 11th goaltender in NHL history to post 400 wins; he is one victory shy of tying Chris Osgood for 10th all-time. Luongo leads all active goaltenders in wins, shutouts (68) and appearances (862).

* Jaromir Jagr registered 1-1—2 to also climb the NHL record books. With 721-1,077—1,798, he tied Ron Francis (549-1,249—1,798) for the fourth-most points in League history. He also moved within two assists of Adam Oates (1,079) for sixth all-time.

* Jagr has 5-9—14 in 16 games since joining the Panthers, including five multi-point performances. Overall, the 43-year-old forward has 16-27—43 in 73 appearances this season.

* Vincent Trocheck (2-1—3) recorded his first career multi-goal game and matched a career high with three points (also Dec. 2 at DET: 1-2—3).

* Aleksander Barkov (1-1—2), Jimmy Hayes (0-2—2) and Jonathan Huberdeau (0-2—2) also collected multiple points, while Brandon Pirri scored his 19th goal in his past 26 games.

* The Panthers yielded their first goal to the Hurricanes since March 27, 2014, snapping their head-to-head shutout streak at 214:14.

JOHANSEN, BLUE JACKETS MATCH FRANCHISE RECORD IN WIN
Ryan Johansen scored the tying goal with 3:43 remaining in regulation and added the insurance marker in the shootout to lead the Blue Jackets to their eighth consecutive victory, matching a franchise record set Jan. 6-23, 2014.

* The Blue Jackets improved to 12-2-0 in their last 14 outings. That includes a franchise-record eight-game road winning streak dating to March 6.

* Johansen extended his point streak to nine contests (4-8—12). He has two other point streaks of at least nine games this season, also Oct. 9-31 (5-8—13 in 10 GP) and Dec. 18 – Jan. 17 (8-8—16 in 13 GP).

* Johansen paces the Blue Jackets with 26-43—69 overall, setting career highs in assists and points this season.

* Battling the flu, Jack Johnson scored for the third straight game (3-0—3) – a first in his career. Elias says only two other defensemen in Blue Jackets history have recorded goals in three consecutive team outings: Bryan Berard in 2005-06 and Fedor Tyutinin 2008-09.

* Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 25 shots and both shootout attempts he faced to extend his personal winning streak to seven games, his second such stretch of the season (also Dec. 1-16: 7-0-0).

LOOSE PUCKS
Islanders captain John Tavares registered 1-1—2, including his 35th goal of the season. He shares second in the NHL with 35-44—79 overall (78 GP), two points shy of his career high established in 2011-12 (31-50—81 in 82 GP) . . . Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban (1-2—3) posted his 12th career three-point game, including his fifth this season. He also set a career high with his 15th goal of the season, which tied the game at 15:01 of the third period . . . At 20 years, 172 days, Elias says forwardSean Monahan became the youngest player in Flames history to reach the 30-goal milestone. Only two other players in franchise history have scored at least 30 goals in one season before turning 21: Kevin LaVallee (32 in 1981-82) and Dan Quinn (30 in 1985-86) . . . Oilers forward Jordan Eberle notched his 23rd goal of the season, giving him 8-10—18 in his last 13 appearances . . . Wild forward Thomas Vanek scored the tying goal early in the third period; he has 8-4—12 in his past 12 outings . . . Islanders forward Eric Boulton snapped a 20-game drought with his first goal since Dec. 12, 2013 at PHX . . . Red Wings defenseman Marek Zidlicky posted his 400th NHL point . . . Oilers goaltender Tyler Bunz (9 SV) made his NHL debut in relief . . . Capitals head coach Barry Trotz (600) and Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards (200) each recorded milestone wins . . . The Department of Player Safety suspended Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien for four games for cross-checking Rangers forward J.T. Miller . . . The Kings signed forward Tanner Pearson to a two-year contract extension . . . The Oilers signed forward Anton Lander to a two-year contract extension . . . ICYMI: Linesman Jean Morin, a native of Sorel, Que., officiated his final NHL game when the Capitals visited the Canadiens at Bell Centre. He finishes his 24-year career with 1,427 regular-season and 211 playoff games to his credit. Members of the Capitals congratulated Morin after the shootout victory.

BLUES, BLACKHAWKS JOCKEY FOR CENTRAL POSITIONING
Both the Blues and Blackhawks look to improve their hopes of home-ice advantage when they take the ice in separate games on Friday. St. Louis (47-23-7, 101 points) – who currently ranks second in the Central Division – travels to Dallas to face the Stars, while Chicago (47-24-6, 100 points) – one point behind the Blues in the division – visits the Sabres in Buffalo. Both the Blues and Blackhawks have 38 ROWs and five games remaining. Two of those contests are against each other: on Sunday at CHI andThursday at STL. Chicago currently leads the season series with a 2-1-0 record (STL: 1-2-0).

SHARKS, STARS TRY TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE
The Sharks and Stars also continue their playoff push in separate games on Friday’sschedule. San Jose (38-30-9, 85 points) – who is currently five points behind Los Angeles (38-25-14, 90 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference – plays host to Arizona at SAP Center, while Dallas (37-30-10, 84 points) – who is six points back – welcomes St. Louis to American Airlines Center. Both clubs have five games remaining, including one against each other – on Monday at SJS.
