HILLER, BACKLUND SPARK FLAMES
Jonas Hiller made 49 saves and Mikael Backlund scored the winning goal with 24.8 seconds left in overtime to power the Flames to their second victory in as many days.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Hiller became the third goaltender in Flames history to allow one or fewer goals in a game in which he faced 50 or more shots. The others to do so: Andrei Trefilov, who made 52 saves in a 4-1 victory Jan. 5, 1994 at NYR, and Fred Brathwaite, who made 49 saves in a 1-1 tie Dec. 14, 1999 at STL.

* Hiller, who signed with the Flames as a free agent this offseason, picked up his first win with the team. He improved to 11-6-2 with a 2.22 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and one shutout in 20 career appearances versus the Blackhawks.

* Hiller’s 49 saves were two shy of his career high; he stopped 51-of-53 shots for the Ducks in a 3-2 victory Dec. 19, 2008 at EDM.

* Backlund registered his second career overtime goal. His other came Feb. 1 vs. MIN (2-0—2). The goal also marked Backlund’s first game-winner of 2014-15; he had a career-high three game-winning goals last season, which ranked second on the team.

* Joe Colborne (0-1—1) recorded his fifth assist of the season, tying Islanders captain John Tavares for the League lead.

* The Flames picked up their third victory in their last four meetings with the Blackhawks, each coming in overtime. Prior to this stretch, Calgary had not defeated Chicago in overtime since Nov. 25, 1999, and had only one previous road overtime win against the Blackhawks – Nov. 14, 1996 (German Titov).

KREJCI LIFTS BRUINS OVER RED WINGS
David Krejci scored the opening goal of the game and added the decisive marker in the shootout to help the Bruins end a three-game skid.

* Krejci improved to 13-for-40 (32.5%) all-time in shootouts, including seven game-deciding goals.

* Reilly Smith also scored in regulation and added the clinching goal in the shootout. He now is 3-for-5 (60.0%) all-time in tiebreakers, with two game-deciding goals.

* Playing in his 200th NHL game, Tuukka Rask made 18 saves and denied both shootout attempts he faced to pick up his second victory of the season. Rask now owns a 104-62-22 career record, with a 2.12 goals-against average, .927 save percentage and 23 shutouts.

* Simon Gagne, who signed with the Bruins Tuesday, skated in his 800th NHL game while making his team debut. It marked Gagne’s first regular-season appearance since April 27, 2013 (as a member of the Flyers).

* The Bruins picked up their first regular-season victory in Detroit since March 11, 2007, ending a five-game skid. They also recorded just their second win in their last 10 regular-season meetings with the Red Wings (2-7-1).

BOEDKER’S HAT TRICK POWERS COYOTES
Mikkel Boedker (3-1—4) posted his first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal, to lead the Coyotes to their second consecutive victory.

* Boedker also set a career high with his first four-point game. His previous single-game best also came against the Oilers, in a 6-2 victory Dec. 3, 2013 at EDM (1-2—3).

* Boedker now has found the back of the net in three consecutive games (5-1—6), matching a career-long stretch set Jan. 4-9 (3-2—5). His five goals this season are tied for second in the NHL with Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds.

* Martin Erat (1-1—2), Shane Doan (0-2—2) and Martin Hanzal (0-2—2) also registered multi-point games for the Coyotes.

* Mike Smith made 23 saves to improve to 9-1-1 with a 2.69 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 13 career appearances versus the Oilers.

* The Coyotes extended their point streak against the Oilers to 14 games, matching the longest such streak against any opponent in franchise history. Arizona has not lost to Edmonton in regulation since Jan. 25, 2011.

* The Coyotes also improved to 16-2-3 versus the Oilers under head coach Dave Tippett.

He now has 26 goals in his last 37 regular-season games, including one in each of the team’s first three outings of 2014-15. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Nyquist (who has 35-29—64 in his career) is just the third player over the last five seasons to score at least 35 goals in his first 100 games. The others: Jeff Skinner (38) and Taylor Hall (36) . . . Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw netted the tying goal with 5:45 remaining in regulation . . . Oilers forward Taylor Hall posted 2-1—3 for his first multi-point game of the season . . . Coyotes forward Sam Gagner won 10-of-18 draws (55.6%) in his first meeting with the Oilers since an offseason trade.
