SUNDAY’S RESULTS
Home Team in Caps

Tampa Bay 6, CHICAGO 3

Calgary 4, NY RANGERS 1

Buffalo 4, ANAHEIM 2

LIGHTNING POST FRANCHISE-RECORD 55 SHOTS ON GOAL IN WIN

The Lightning converted on six of 55 shots on goal to defeat the Blackhawks and improve to 5-1-1 this season. Tampa Bay boosted its record to 6-0-1 in its last seven games against Chicago since both teams met in the 2015 Stanley Cup Final (CHI: 1-4-2), including six consecutive wins.

* The Lightning established a franchise record for most shots on goal in a game, eclipsing the previous mark of 52 set on Nov. 18, 2008 vs. FLA. Tampa Bay recorded 33 of its 55 shots on goal in the middle frame, the highest total by a team in one period since 1997-98.

* Brayden Point (1-2—3) scored his first game-winning goal of the season and the 15th of his NHL career (157 GP). Only three players have scored more game-winning goals since Point made his NHL debut in 2016-17: Nathan MacKinnon (17), Brad Marchand (17) and Filip Forsberg (16).

* In addition, only 30 players in NHL history have required fewer contests to score 15 career game-winning goals, including just one over the last 20 years: Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (149 GP).

GAUDREAU REACHES 300-POINT MILESTONE IN FLAMES VICTORY

Johnny Gaudreau scored twice to reach the 300-point milestone (102-198—300) and help the Flames improve to 5-3-0 this season, including a 3-2-0 mark on the road. Calgary earned its first win at Madison Square Garden since Dec. 7, 2008 (3-0 W), snapping a six-game slide (0-5-1).

* Gaudreau, selected in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft (103rd overall), became the fourth player from his draft class to reach the milestone, joining No. 2 Gabriel Landeskog (150-201—351), No. 58 Nikita Kucherov (149-192—341) and No. 1 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (121-199—320).

* Among players to debut with the Flames franchise, Gaudreau required the sixth-fewest games to record 300 career NHL points (320 GP).

SKINNER HELPS SABRES CONCLUDE ROAD TRIP WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS

Jeff Skinner scored one of four Buffalo goals to help the Sabres conclude their five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 record and improve to 5-4-0 overall this season.

* Skinner, acquired by the club on Aug. 2, recorded five goals through the Sabres’ five-game road trip (5-2—7), including scoring his fifth career hat trick on Oct. 20 at LAK (5-1 W).

DUCKS RETIRE PAUL KARIYA’s No. 9 AT HONDA CENTER

The Ducks retired former captain Paul Kariya’s No. 9 in a pre-game ceremony at Honda Center. Kariya, the franchise’s first-ever selection in the NHL Draft, joined longtime teammate Teemu Selanne (No. 8) as the only players to have their number retired by the club.

* One of the greatest players in franchise history, Kariya collected 300-369—669 over his nine seasons with the Mighty Ducks (606 GP), including one 50-goal and two 100-point seasons. During his tenure with the franchise from 1994-95 to 2002-03 he ranked among the top 10 in the NHL for both goals and points.

TRIO OF PLAYERS LOOK TO EXTEND SEASON-OPENING POINT STREAKS

Forwards Nathan MacKinnon (COL), Mikko Rantanen (COL) and Sebastian Aho (CAR) each look to extend their season-opening point streaks to nine games on Monday.

* MacKinnon (8-6—14) and Rantanen (2-12—14) can become the sixth and seventh players in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to record at least one point in each of the club’s opening nine games in a season, in which they would join Mats Sundin in 1992-93 (30 GP), Peter Stastny in 1987-88 (16 GP), Joe Sakic in 1988-89 (12 GP), Wendel Clark in 1994-95 (10 GP) and John-Michael Liles in 2010-11 (9 GP).

* Aho (4-9—13) can become the second player in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history to record at least one point in each of the first nine team games to begin a season, in which he would join Ron Francis in 1984-85 (11 GP).

* Did You Know? Rantanen (Nousiainen, Finland) and Aho (Rauma, Finland) own the longest season-opening point streaks in NHL history among Finnish-born players.
