via Chip Alexander of Canes Now,
Canes forward Jeff Skinner has sustained a concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team has announced.
Skinner, the team's second-leading scorer, missed 16 games last season because of a concussion. He was injured Thursday during the Canes' game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, taking a couple of hard hits and once going helmet-first into the boards.
Skinner said after the game that he felt fine. He was at practice Friday and took part in the annual "Skate with the Canes" event later that night with fans.
The Canes had Saturday off. Skinner was unable to practice Sunday, did not make the trip to Montreal for the game Monday against the Canadiens and missed practice the past two days.
Skinner has seven goals and seven assists in 13 games this season and ranked second to Eric Staal in points. The 2011 Calder Trophy as the NHL rookie of the year, he scored 31 goals in 2010-2011 and 20 last season.
