Is The Pressure On The Los Angeles Kings?

from Lance Pugmire of the LA Times,

“Right now I feel the pressure is all on them,” Kane said. “Obviously, being up in a 3-1 position, you never want to lose that in a series. We have a great opportunity tonight, playing in front of our home fans, to get another win and that’s all we’re looking at right now. We don’t feel any pressure in here and if there is any pressure, it’s probably all on the Kings.”

Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville agreed the pressure is “on L.A.”

A big part of the Blackhawks’ reasoning is linked to their rally from a 3-1 deficit in beating the Detroit Red Wings in seven games last year in the Western Conference semifinals.

“You look back against Detroit, we came in here, excited to be home, take advantage of the home crowd,” Quenneville said. “I don’t want to say loose, but let’s be excited about the opportunity. You’ve only got to win one game here.”

No. The pressure is not all on the LA Kings.

Of the four teams still playing hockey, the Hawks are the only ones who can’t realistically wiggle their way into a “hey Conference finals berth, cool!” post-mortem feelgood party.

I mean, the Kings are just behind them in being a team deserving of expectations, but it’s not particularly close. If the Hawks lose, it will be their failure.

No pressure on Chicago. They’ve accomplished a ton the past few years, and the fact they’ve made it to the conference finals is an accomplishment in itself.

Ha ha ha!! These guys are cracking me up! Let’s see, the pressure is on them, so we’ll change our lines. We’re on the verge of being eliminated in front of our own crowd, but the pressure is on… them! Word has it the puck plans to not ‘bounce’ the Kings way, so the pressure is on them!!

There is always pressure on a team to close out a series. But the pressure he’s talking about in this article is squarely on the Hawks. Anytime a ‘favorite’ is on the ropes, there is tremendous pressure. If the Hawks lose tonight - and no reason to think they won’t - they’ll not only have failed to live up to expectations, but they’ll have been embarrassed in the series. If they lose in 7, at least they made a valiant effort.

I expect the Hawks to come out hard. I also expect LA to. You don’t come back from down 0-3 without knowing how to bring a tremendous amount of resolve and will into your game. That’s a problem for Chicago.

Whatever. Just hope the Kings put the Slackhawks away tonight.
