Hockey Night in Canada bids farewell

The CBC will continue to air Hockey Night in Canada next season, but Rogers Media is taking the reins, and things are going to change. As such, Tim Thompson posited a post-season wrap-up montage which paid tribute to Hockey Night in Canada's roots:

Yes, we have witnessed our last Hockey Night in Canada game as we have grown to love.

I remember sitting in front of our black and white TV watching HNIC as a kid in the early 60’s.

It has come a long way and the personalities have become like family to me and I hope we see many of the same faces in the future and the memories will always remain with me.

HNIC has been an integral part of my life for the past 60 years, from youth to senior.  You cannot be replaced.  Like Sears, INCO, CCM and Stomping Tom you were an institution of our country.  Thanks for the memories.

After the 1980 Winter Olympics, CBC and HNIC was my introduction to NHL hockey and yes, it was the Laffs on my screen.  But I was a hockey fan born that day and a Wings fan within a week after also discovering WKBD with Ray Lane broadcasting the Wings games.

Good times, HNIC.  Good times…even if you were Laffs fans.

HNIC was the best. CKLW, channel 9 in Detroit. Many of us watched in black and white cause that’s the way it was back then.

Thanks for the memories.

Sincerely,
Kate
