Glendale City Council Meeting Tonight

AZCentral is covering the meeting live, so you may want to check that out.

The meeting starts at 10:00pm ET and Gary Bettman and Bill Daly will be in attendance.

I am sure most of know what is at stake tonight, a yes vote from the council probably means the Coyotes stay in Phoenix, a no vote may force the NHL to look at relocation.

Either George or I will try to update the results, of course depending on the length of the meeting.

added 9:50pm,

You may be able to watch a stream of the meeting here.

added 10:44pm, RSE attorney...

I might drive over there just so I can laugh in the City Council’s faces, no matter which way they vote.

I want the Coyotes to stay in Glendale, it is a great arena and the most suffering franchise in the NHL.  This deal is a terrible deal that only assures you that you have a buyer with no money who will move the team in 5 years. I also do not trust the RSE group of buyers made up of Blackberry executives, they are too closely associated with the scum Ballsillie. That being said I want a team in Seattle, so I am very much conflicted. If this were a better deal, with some commitment to stay in Glendale, I would be for it.

RSE Attorney Nick Wood pleading the case passionately for the Coyotes.  Very compelling points about the resulting businesses dependent on the Coyotes.

.....you mean to plead Gary’s case…...

Other than vanity, why would he fight this long and spend the amount of money and resources he has to keep this team in a market where it has Never .....Not Once .... Made a profit in 15 years??

Prospective buyer Anthony Leblanc guarantees no more than $45 million in losses in the first five years if Glendale says yes to the Yotes.

RSE will make the city “whole” when they leave and cover all the losses.

It what fuchin bizzaro world is anyone expected to believe this?  You’re going to tell me that after 5 years of losses, the ownership group who can’t even pull together enough money to buy the team without massive loans, is going to somehow cover the millions of dollars Glenndale will have lost with this clusterfuch?  And who decides this magic make whole number, anyway?

The opposing viewpoints are led by Outside Counsel Gary Birnbaum.

Am I missing something here? Shouldn’t Leblanc be guaranteeing $45million in profits? Isn’t making a profit the right way to run a business?

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

At least, Birnbaum is talking from a financing standpoint rather than a passionate POV.  He’s a straight shooter and simply wants to clarify the history of what was previously negotiated between RSE and Glendale.  In the end, the Yotes are a business.

You guys want to know why Glendale keeps dragging this out?

This is why.  Some of those city and council people think they’re godd*mn rockstars now with all this.  Their names get out there in reports and with quotes.  They have cameras coming to meetings.

Why on earth would they ever want to stop this sideshow?  They’re nothing but nobodies in a little, nobody town and yet millions are hanging on their every word.  And once this is done, they have to go back to being nobodies in a nobody town that noone cares about at all.

Aye, Primis.  Councilmen Sherwood looks like a snake and Mayor Weier looks like Kenny Rogers missing a few fried chickens out of the rotisserie.

Weiers asking for a couple more weeks to try to improve this deal. Doesn’t want to rush into it. Of course, there is that July 2 deadline…

Councilwoman Alvarez wants to put more cops on the streets of Glendale and wants to know how much money will be gained to get those cops.  Seems like she doesn’t seem to support the Yotes in this town; appears to want to cut losses with the Yotes now before it bleeds Glendale any further.
