Gary Bettman Does Not Want “To Start Another News Cycle” On CTE

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who has stated in the past that there is no proven link between repeated concussions and the degenerative brain disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), declined to respond Monday when asked if he still holds that opinion....

"I'm not going to start another news cycle. There's nothing new on the subject," Bettman said during a news conference before the Vegas Golden Knights hosted the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, sitting beside Bettman, added, "This is not the commissioner's view. It's the science view. So all we're doing is reiterating what the scientists have concluded, which is there's not enough information to draw that link."

Ann McKee, a neuropathologist who heads the CTE Center at Boston University's School of Medicine and is considered an authority in the field, has diagnosed CTE in several NHL players. "The NHL is really in the dark ages," she recently told the Canadian TSN network.

The NHL is really in the dark ages

You can say that again, sister.  On most things.

“If we admit science is real, well, we’ll definitely fall behind football, college football, basketball, college basketball, baseball, soccer, NASCAR, Formula 1, and every piece of NBC programming in the ratings and lose out on all those profits.”

I wonder why the NHLPA can’t move him or a Kindergarten class can’t move him from the Dark Ages.  Better yet into space on his own planet, the hot bright yellow one would be nice,

I have been reading the book, “League Of Denial”, which is about how the NFL denied CTE for decades. The book also mentioned the NHL also agrees about the effects of CTE. Sounds like Bettman is trying to cover it up by his statements. Something is up. confused

Seems like he is playing word games.  Concussions don’t contribute to cte, but hits to the head sure do. How many garden gnomes fit on the head of a pin?
