This was disgusting, as in gross.

I’m not sure why Hathaway felt so aggrieved
about taking a sneaky shot or two given he’d just landed
a few heavy punches at a much smaller non-fighter.

But if spitting is so gross and uniquely insulting it is worth
three games, why was the most dirty player in the league
licking opponents essentially excused with a gentle “please don’t
do that next time” by the league? Especially when the player who
subjected an opponent to that kept talking about it proudly like he was a naughty little boy who did something cute?

Somehow the league acts as though they think that player is some fun character
to market whom opposing fans “love to hate”. To whom normal discipline shouldn’t apply. We miss you, Bob Probert.

From the hygiene point of view… players are spitting all around the bench and ice. Skaters like to snow that ice up, especially in to goalie’s face.
