from David Staples of the Edmonton Journal,
Some trade suggestions out of Boston, the first from sports commentator Jimmy Murphy: “Habs need to trade Max Pacioretty and Carey Price! Do it now before what promises to be a miserable season and their value goes down! If I’m Bergevin, Pacioretty to Panthers for Bjugstad and Price, Alzner to Oilers for Draisaitl, Lucic, Talbot. Make it happen MB! (Montreal GM Marc Bergevin).”
And this from Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston, his notion that the Bruins might be interested in Milan Lucic of the Oilers: “If the Bruins could get him at a reduced rate without giving up too much in assets, would it be worth reuniting Lucic and Krejci on the second line to see if that could spark the power forward back up to 20 plus goals? Certainly the Bruins wouldn’t get pushed around in the playoffs like they did against the Lightning last season, and that’s worth something in and of itself....
My take
Both Murphy and Haggerty aren’t reporting trade rumours here, they’re just speculating, having some fun, as the NHL’s silly season is clearly upon us. Most teams have made all of the major moves they’re going to make, though Ottawa could still move Erik Karlsson. All the major free agents have been signed, saved for Patrick Maroon. Still, hockey fans and hockey writers like to scheme and dream, so we’re going to hear all kinds of fascinating scenarios, some of them more credible than others.
