Ray Stein of the Columbus Dispatch received a few questions...
Ray: Recent quotes attributed to Blue Jackets players and the coach speak volumes about the culture of losing that pervades the team. Todd Richards isn’t angry, he’s “disappointed.” Ryan Johansen shrugs his shoulders and says they’re only three or four points out of a playoff spot.
Winning teams do not shrug when faced with losing streaks, nor do they accept losing with stoicism. Winning teams play with urgency and a win-now attitude every game, all game. Until management and coaching staff find a way to create that attitude — and hold players and coaches accountable for bad play — we fans will continue to be served the same slop every year, with only “ potential” to cling to.
Fans are well past “disappointed.” We are angry — not just at the results but at the lack of effort and the ineptitude. Worse, we get the impression we fans care more than coaches and players. Real or not, the impression itself is as pathetic as the team’s play.
