Dan Carcillo May Be Facing A Lengthy Suspension

Bob McKenzie tweets...

As @DarrenDreger said, NYR Dan Carcillo likely to be hit with Rule 40 abuse of official, calls for auto suspension of 3 or 10 or 20 games.

Betting is it's more likely to be 10 or 20 than 3 but formal notifice expected today. Rule 40 decisions made by on-ice officials post-game.

Watch the incident below, HNIC broadcast...

My bigger question is why did the linesman go grab him in the first place? He wasn’t engaged with anyone or attempting to jump in as a third man. I’m sorry, I’m sick and tired of seeing Linesman go after “reputation” players all the time. The end result is Carcillo is being tossed around like a rag doll by that Linesman while he’s doing nothing but he’s the one that got a game misconduct and is going to get a suspension?

Carcillo is a Moron ! Pens gave up on him for this very reason, Pens traded him to Phoenix for Georges Laraque. guy is a dumb penalty waiting to happen

phillyd for exactly the reason above, he is standing right next to Prust & Dorsett fighting & only the linesman knows why he grabbed him, But I bet he had a pretty good reason

But in doing that he actually neglected his duties which was to assist the other linesman in the fight. Is what Carcillo did wrong? Yes. But the way he was basically grabbed for standing there and then just shoved around and dragged into the penalty box is just never questioned by the league or NHLPA. I’ve seen it too many times across the games this year.

Why do you assume that the linesman shouldn’t have grabbed him?  You admit that you don’t know why, yet it must have been for no reason?

And also, the reason Carcillo is being “tossed around” isn’t that the linesman grabbed him, it’s that he hit the linesman.  ALL the linesman did before Carcillo hit him was grab his shirt.  Nothing else.  It doesn’t matter why the linesman grabbed him.

Pure speculation on my part based on Carcillo’s prior behavior, but it seems likely that the linesman approached Carcillo because he was likely taunting/talking at the other players trying to start another conflict. As the linesman approached to push him to open ice, he cross-checked the linesman. Officials rarely grab people for no reason. They miss calls or blow calls on occasion, but their actual on-ice conduct is almost always professional.

Who cares why he did that! You can’t fault a player for not defending his team if a linesman or ref is holding him. Players need to have some degree of respect for the zebras. Throw Carcillo and Prust out for the rest of the playoffs!

THAT was what a cross check looks like? They never call that in a game. Maybe he was giving him a demonstration.

Watch the league give him 20 games for that but Prust 3 games for that jaw-breaking headshot.  Just sayin’.  It took a few watches of that video to even see what contact was being discussed.

While contact with the refs is uncalled for, I’m not 100% sure there was enough to justify anything beyond the mandatory minimum on this.
