I double-checked this Tweet to make sure it was real, because this is a jaw-dropper of a Friday night trade:

Great trade for the Stars, and Oduya should be signed now I think the Hawks were trying to make moves to get under the cap.

maybe they move seabrook and keep oduya? don’t know the cap but it’s weird oduya hasn’t signed anywhere yet. that’s odd.

uhh, so what happened to the 1st round pick, plus top prospect, plus top 6 forward on an entry level deal?

This actually seems like a pretty fair deal.
Chet, if they trade Seabrook and keep Oduya… they’re freakin’ crazy. I know they need cap space but Seabrook is a legit top D, especially for the Hawks where they don’t want for much offense after Keith and the forwards.

maybe but they must be looking for cap savings. seabrook’s only signed through this season, he’s already a $5.8m cap hit, he’s going to want one more big long deal that chicago likely cannot sustain. selling high and bringing in cheaper daley as a semi-replacement might make sense. do they have RFAs they’ll need to pay more starting next summer? if so he’s prob. gone anyway.

Zuh?
Trades sure have been…. interesting… lately. No idea why Dallas makes this one.

The Stars just let the Hawks off the hook—big time. Even though they didn’t pay with the sun, the moon, and the stars: I still don’t like it.
They’re in the same division and rather making them wait and sweat it out through July into camp they gave up comparable value instead of paying pennies on the dollar later.
Oduya has to be furious…would be interesting if he says they made a verbal commitment as long as he was willing to accept slightly less than the 3.3M cap hit he had last year…this is when you wish the “insiders” were available to watch and find out what was happening.
Either way they still are in cap trouble next year with 3.2M in potential bonuses and Tikhonov, Versteeg, and Seabrook as UFA’s.

oduya wants to be in chicago. he’s prob thrilled w this. he’s not signed anywhere for a reason.

If you are a Stars fan you have to be pretty happy with Jim Nill. Trades for Sharp, Spezza, and Segiun. Just brought in another goalie too. It’s almost like he is making trades look easy.

Dallas needs D now, time to get on the phone and remind Jimmy how much he always loved Ericsson and Kindl, Kenny.
Posted by Garth on 07/11/15 at 10:58 AM ET

Look at Nill getting stuff done.

Don’t forget Stevie. The grasshoppers have learned well

The grasshoppers may just be executing better. Hard to compare, though. Dallas and Tampa have had very high picks in the last 10 yrs and that skews things. still wouldn’t mind seeing an aggressive trade where holland packages up young talent for proven top tier player. Think Dallas regrets the Segiun trade? Think they didn’t give a lot up to get him? Team that gets the best player aoat always wins the trade…

Wow. Serious respect for Chicago’s front office. They get it.

Oh yeah - forgot to mention - it’s become glaringly apparent that Scotty was responsible for Jim Nill’s reputation as well.
