Crosby speaks at the NHLPA's meetings

09/14/2012 at 1:28am EDT

The NHLPA's Facebook page and Twitter account have precarious paths to wander during the impending lockout as the PA tries to continue to vie for "hearts and minds" as their members and the owners miss games while battling over fans' discretionary incomes.

I personally support the PA's side, but I'm going to be very curious to see how they handle helping the players market themselves once NHL teams' PR departments go quiet on Saturday, because (as I Tweeted at them) "Dan Ellis Problem" minefields will populate the landscape once frustration takes hold if this drags into...Well hell, next week, never mind October, November or December, and the players are left to find their own ice time, equipment, training and medical staffs, promote their own appearances (holding "public" practices, charity games and offering support for the very normal people who work at NHL rinks, restaurants, etc. on game nights might be wise ideas) and, in some cases, movements to play for European teams on short or not-so-short term bases.

In any case, the NHLPA's most visible member of the 287 players who attended Wednesday and Thursday's meetings spoke to the media after Donald Fehr took the dais at the Marriot Marquis New York, and here's Mr. Sidney Crosby's 11-minute presser in its entirety:

And yes, their meetings' Facebook photo gallery reveals that the players did indeed wear suits. On Wednesday. Thursday was casual day, I guess.
