Are Chris Phillips And Tyler Myers Available?

from TSN,

What are you hearing about two defencemen at opposite ends of their careers, 35-year-old Chris Phillips and 24-year-old Tyler Myers?

Dreger: In terms of Phillips, there's a negotiation that's ongoing between the Ottawa Senators and Phillips to keep him a lifer in Ottawa. If that doesn't go well, if Phillips doesn't like the offer that has been presented, then Bryan Murray may have to make a very difficult decision. There would be interest in Chris Phillips, a veteran player, very sound defensively, maybe he's a good fit with the Boston Bruins.

In terms of Myers, there is considerable interest according to sources close to the Buffalo Sabres. But GM Tim Murray isn't trying to push this guy out the door. Is he available? Is he interested in moving him? Yes he is. We're looking at Toronto as potentially a fit, as would be the Anaheim Ducks. And the Colorado Avalanche are definitely looking for a defenceman. So there will be options, but come ready to pay a premium.

Kenny, pick up the phone. Myers needs a stable coach (Mike Babcock) and a good veteran core (Kronwall) to work through his extended sophmore slump. I know he’s scary and it would probably require an “overpay” to get him strictly based on how he’s performed the last couple years. But D this young with the talent to be true top-pair guys rarely come available at all—you might be “overpaying” compared to what Myers has done recently, but you need to look at whether it is an overpayment or not based on what you think you can do with the player in the coming years, not what he did in the past, especially when it’s a young defenseman, who are always the slowest to develop into steady everyday players.

That all said, do we have any comps out there in recent memory that might tell us what Myers would cost? Buffalo needs everything.
