“The gold would mean a lot. Talk in Sweden began to pick up when they were about to pick the teams. We know Canada’s going to be good, a lot of teams will, but Sweden will have high expectations.”

-Nick Lidstrom on Team Sweden.  Luke Fox of Sportsnet has more from Lidstrom, including Wings and Babcock talk.

Lidstrom explains his former mentor’s key to success, giving a hint as to what the Canadian men’s squad can expect.

“He demands a lot out of his players, and as long as you’re working hard and doing your job, you’re going to get your ice time. He’ll treat you fairly,” Lidstrom says. “He’ll study videos or talk to players to get to know all the little things that can make a team better.”

Dumb question for sure but…if Lidstrom wanted to…could he play for Sweden?

If you were the coach of team Sweden, would you say “no” to him if he asked to be on the team?

I doubt there are any rules that would prohibit him from playing.

They said no to Victor Hedman and Jonas Brodin.  I don’t think they’d take Lidstrom as a replacement over either of those, sadly.  He definitely should be better thought of than friggin’ Hjalmarsson or Oduya though until the day he can’t see to lace his skates.
