MONTREAL - Andrei Markov addressed his departure from the Canadiens via conference call on Thursday afternoon. Here are a few quotes from the call with members of the media.

- “I’ve never been nervous like this. Even on my wedding day, I wasn’t this nervous.”

- “It’s sad for me to leave. They say when one door closes, another one opens.”

- “I’d like to thank Geoff Molson for giving me the opportunity to play for the greatest team there is.”

- “I’d like to thank the fans for supporting me for over the last 16 years. I will never forget you.”

- “I wanted to stay with the Canadiens for the rest of my career, but it won’t happen. It’s a business.”

- “I’ve always been treated well. I’m proud to have been a Canadiens player for 16 years.”

- “I’m not planning to retire anytime soon. Don’t worry about that.”

- “I’ve decided to move back to Russia and play in the KHL.”

- “I will never forget Saku’s return and the All-Star Game in Montreal.”

- “I didn’t see myself with any other NHL team. I didn’t see myself wearing another jersey.”

- “I’m not closing the door. But, today I’m going back to Russia.” - Markov on possibly returning to Montreal in the future

- “Those 16 years were a big part of my life. I will never forget my time here.”

- “The feeling when I jump on the ice, that’s what I will miss most about it.”
