DeKeyser, Hronek and Nemeth are part of the top four. Based on how well he played in his first season in North America (22 points in 49 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins), Moritz Seider will get a good look during the exhibition season to see if he can be the fourth guy in that group. He’s 6-foot-4, 207 pounds, shoots right, and is accustomed to running a power play. Potentially, the power-play units will be run by Seider and Hronek, and DeKeyser and Nemeth will handle top penalty-killing duties.

Alex Biega, acquired in October via trade, is signed through next season, earning an extension on the strength of hard work and competitiveness. Madison Bowey is a restricted free agent, and although he didn’t show the growth the Wings hoped for, there’s no risk in bringing him back on a one-year deal.

Pending unrestricted free agent Cody Goloubef was claimed off waivers in February, but he played only two games before being scratched. Prospects Gustav Lindstrom and Dennis Cholowski are under contract.

Cholowski started out well in Detroit, but his inability to sustain the type of assertiveness the Wings want to see is why he was assigned to Grand Rapids in mid-December. Lindstrom doesn’t have Cholowski’s offensive instincts, but he’s sound defensively and generally makes safe decisions with the puck.

As it stands, Biega, Bowey, Lindstrom and Cholowski will compete for third-pairing minutes/reserve duty.
