World Cup of Hockey Preliminary Round Commanding Interest on Secondary Ticket Market

09/17/2016 at 8:36am EDT

By Tim Dolan,

From Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, eight teams representing different portions of the globe - Team Canada, Team Czech Republic, Team Finland, Team Russia, Team Sweden, Team USA, Team Europe and Team North America - will compete against one another in the World Cup of Hockey. These eight teams are split into groups that will play in a tournament that features over 150 of the NHL’s best players.

The preliminary round will be played from September 17-22 and each team will play its other three group opponents in a round robin format. Some of the top venues in the U.S. will host these preliminary round games, and as a result, there has been a lot of activity on the secondary ticket market over these upcoming encounters. An overview of the top preliminary round contests, in terms of get-in ticket prices using data provided by Razorgator, is presented below.

9/17 Czech Republic vs. Canada I Air Canada Centre I Get-In: $111

The Czech Republic and Canada will play in prime-time match-up on Saturday, September 17. Team Canada is loaded and features some of the NHL’s best players including Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Corey Perry, and Patrice Bergeron. The Czech side features some NHL players, but does not have the star power like Team Canada has. Given the team and location, ticket prices are high for this matchup. On Razorgator, World Cup of Hockey tickets start at $111 for this game.

9/20 United States vs. Canada I Air Canada Centre I Get-In: $179

There’s no love loss between these two teams. Canada boasts a ton of star power on its roster, but Team USA’s roster isn’t any less talented. Team USA will feature Patrick Kane, TJ Oshie, David Backes, and has an impressive trio of Ben Bishop, Jon Quick, and Corey Schneider in goal. Canada has dominated this matchup historically, and will look to keep it up here in their quest of winning the World Cup of Hockey. Tickets for the World Cup of Hockey to see these two rivals go at it begin at $179, which is the highest get-in price of the tournament.

9/21 Europe vs. Canada I Air Canada Centre I Get-In: $92

Team Canada will finish the round robin portion of the tournament against Europe. Europe’s team sports several key NHL players including Mats Zuccarello, Anze Kopitar, and Thomas Vanek, and has Thomas Greiss in goal. However, it may not be enough to match up against Canada’s loaded squad, as they are the favorites entering the proceedings. The get-in ticket price is clocking in at $92, which could end up being one of the better values on the tourney slate.
