On New Year’s Eve, the Flames began a win streak that, after Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, has extended to seven games and elevated them to second in the Pacific Division with a 25-16-4 record.
They have not lost in 2018.
And after a four-game road trip that ended on a high note as the Flames headed into their mandated NHL break, they are officially the hottest team in the 31-team loop the eighth-best team in the NHL.
“This is kind of where we started last year when we went on that run,” said Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan, referring to the team’s 10-game win streak that started of 2016-17before the 2017 NHL All-Star break. “You know what, these guys always had it in them. I always thought they could get on a little run here. Eight or nine games before this started, we started playing pretty good hockey but we weren’t getting the results … you’ve gotta be happy for the guys.”
