What's Ahead For The Anaheim Ducks?

02/02/2019 at 9:04am EST

from Elliott Teaford of the OC Register,

Selling off expensive and aging players could prove difficult to impossible, though.

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, both 33, each have two seasons and $16 million remaining on their contracts. They also have no-movement clauses included in their deals, as does 34-year-old Ryan Kesler, who has three years and more than $18 million left on his contract.

Murray said he would attempt to sign Jakob Silfverberg to a contract extension before season’s end, but the 28-year-old Swede could fetch high draft picks and/or prospects if he remains without a new deal and is dealt before the deadline....

(Dallas) Eakins might get an opportunity to coach in the NHL again, after a disastrous stint with the perpetually rebuilding Edmonton Oilers, but it’s not likely to come with the Ducks until after the season. Again, Murray doesn’t wish to solve one issue in Anaheim by creating another in San Diego.

It’s anticipated that Carlyle will continue to coach to the Ducks and complete the final year of his three-year contract. If the Ducks don’t advance to the playoffs, and maybe even if they do, then you can expect Murray to make a move to replace Carlyle with Eakins or someone else.
