It's the slow time of year for the NHL season but soon the training camps will open, a few trades and UFA signings may be made and we will all be back in our comfort zone.
A few teams have improved, a few teams have not and the remaining teams are a question mark for the upcoming season.
On top of that, the online casino business will become more prevalent with more and more ads appearing just about everywhere.
The majority of comments on Kukla's Korner on posts regarding all the betting ads we have seen have reached from one end to the other.
It's a business, let them be, too many ads, what's next, an instant betting ad on power plays, penalty kills, penalty shots, etc..
Viewing a hockey game has changed drastically over the years and gambling ads are only going to increase in-game. It is something we just need to embrace or at least tolerate.
I do wonder those who participate in betting on hockey actually view the ads are then spurred on to bet even more or are the ads meant to attract the new gambler?
For example, you are watching your favorite team on TV when a casino/gambling ad appears. Do you watch and then act on it, store it in your memory bank and visit the site during your free time or do you just shut it out and wait for th action on the ice to start again?
No matter how you react to that type of ad, let me be clear, the surface is just being scratched. It has been less than a year when the boom started and yes, some will fail, but if they are making money, it certainly is not going to stop.
KK attracts the more experienced hockey fan, many of us have witnessed all types of ads, some we remember, many just go away. Advertising does work and not matter if we go out kicking and screaming is not going to stop it.
Threats to stop watching games is an option, but I would suggest just let it pass and continue enjoying the game.
Advertising does not influence the game, it only influences us if we allow it to.
After all, we see many types of ads during a hockey game. Some do grab my attention, most of them I tune out, others I really don't care what someone is trying to sell me.
Yes, the ads we are talking about are new and again, you may or not be interested in them, but the bottom line is, you decide, nothing is being forced on us and we will get through it.
Enjoy the game, watch what you want when it comes to advertising. Our game will soon be back, get ready for the season and relax, all is good.
May the best NHL team raise the Cup in June and let's get through this season without any pauses, that is my concern.
