Ryan Garbutt of the Dallas Stars had his night end midway in the first period last night after receiving five minutes and a game for this spear on Corey Perry. Perry briefly left the game but did return.

Garbutt said the play was careless on his part: “I was coming back to the bench and got careless with my stick. It was definitely something I didn’t want to do.”
The Ducks diagreed.
“It was deliberate,” said Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. “It wasn’t an accident, but we know that’s how he plays.”
