from Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
“We played 15 minutes the right way, had all kinds of success,” Hitchcock said, “and then refused to stay with it. Figure out whatever term you want to use, but when you play that way, you don’t respect the lines on the ice, you don’t respect the deep game, and you pay the price because of it. We’re scoring one goal a game. We had a great start to keep up the pressure and then that wasn’t good enough. We decided we wanted to play a different way. And by the time we decided to catch it back up it was way too late.
“It’s really disappointing to watch us have to go through this because it’s not the right way to play. The players know it in there, especially the veteran players, but I’m not sure what it’s going to take for us to get back to what we’re capable of but we’re not doing it on a consistent basis. That’s why we’re a .500 hockey club over the last little while. We’re .500 in our individual game and we’re .500 in our record because of it.”
