from Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun,
Nobody felt the frustration more than captain Connor McDavid, who will miss the playoffs for the third time in his four years with the Oilers.
I asked him if his frustration level was fairly high at this point and he made no attempt to soft pedal anything.
“It’s really high, it’s really, really high,” he said in an empty dressing room after Edmonton’s 3-1 loss to Las Vegas. “We want to play in the playoffs as a team. I personally want to play in the playoffs. I’m not happy about it. It’s going to be a long summer.”
Fitting, given that this was a very long season.
“It’s been an insane season,” continued McDavid. “Coaching change. GM change. Good times and bad times. It’s been a roller coaster. It’s been emotionally challenging. It’s been hard mentally to keep on going, but we were always kind of right there. We were close and then we drifted away. That’s the way it goes.”
Asked if he thinks the Oilers are close to fixing this broken toy in time for next year, McDavid rolled his eyes as if to say ‘Take a look around.’
