“Jay possesses a truly unique sports performance and leadership background,” said Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee. “His impressive tenure at Cirque du Soleil along with his experience in the Armed Forces will impact our organization in a meaningful way. Mellette brings 17 years of experience working with international athletes and international coaches to the Golden Knights organization. As the Director of Performance Medicine at Cirque du Soleil, Mellette oversaw the care, prevention and rehabilitation services for over 1300 athletes and staff. He was instrumental in building a culture of conditioning, creating the concussion protocols, developing an injury prevention program portfolio, and delivering quality clinical outcomes and analysis. He also has extensive experience leading worldwide medical network development and constructing high functioning multidisciplinary teams.

Before becoming a sports medicine professional, Mellette was an active duty member of the United States Air Force where he was the recipient of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the National Defense Service Medal. Prior to serving in the Air Force, his years of experience working in university sports and in Major League Soccer were foundational to the development of his vision of an integrated athlete-centered approach to healthcare and performance management.

Mellette is a licensed athletic trainer and performance enhancement specialist who holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a Master’s degree from Regis University. He has been an active member in his profession having spent the last five years as a member of the International Committee for the National Athletic Trainers Association. Jay, his wife Stephanie, and their four dogs reside in Las Vegas.
