Tough Life

The International Ice Hockey Federation has spared little expense on its headquarters for the Turin Games. It spent weeks sprucing up a rundown tennis and fitness club that's located just down the street from the main hockey venue, the Palasport Olympico. Carpets and drapes were changed, new flooring was installed. The catering company brought along a lovely wooden bar and some sumptuous leather club chairs and sofas. Starched white linens cover tables set with silverware and three different wine glasses. Preparations for the complimentary wining and dining members of the International Olympic Committee and the big wigs from the NHL, its players' association, and various national federations -- the House is not open to the public -- were not taken lightly.
