from David Staples of the Edmonton Journal,
A number of tweets and comments reported today on the buyers’ market for NHL goalies, starting with Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Sun, who looks at what the Canucks might do: “Jacob Markstrom, 25, has an outstanding book of work in the AHL, but history dictates he isn’t good enough to be an NHL starter and would work best in tandem with a proven stopper. What does that command? A third-round 2015 pick?
“Eddie Lack, 27, is too good — in the net and the marketplace — yet some suitors are fixated on his Game 4 playoff hook. What’s all that worth? A second-round pick? Some say yes, some say no.
“(Vancouver GM) Jim Benning has called the goalie market ‘fickle’ because the Vancouver Canucks general manager has found it difficult to get what he considers full value — more than a pick — in parting with either Lack or Markstrom.”
And Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sunalso reports a buyers’ market: “The crowded crease isn’t only an issue for the Senators. And, that’s why the goalie market is difficult to gauge right now. Senators GM Bryan Murray isn’t the only one trying to move a netminder before this weekend’s NHL entry draft in Fort Lauderdale.
