from Jack Todd at the Montreal Gazette,
It’s like sitting on the riverbank during a spring flood, watching a tattered Canadiens pennant on a leaky raft being swept downstream.
That’s what the Canadiens are now: A team in chaos, drifting to an uncertain fate at a time when it feels as though no one is in charge. You see it happening but you’re powerless to stop it and you have no idea how the CH got into this pongy mess in the first place.
The 2021-2022 edition of your Montreal Canadiens is a dreadful team. Inept on defence and popgun on offence — an appalling parody of the team that made it to the Stanley Cup final last summer.
Turns out it really does matter when you’re missing Corey Perry , Phillip Danault, Joel Edmundson, Paul Byron, Shea Weber and Carey Price . Who knew? Marc Bergevin should have but if he did, Cedric Paquette and David Savard were not the answer.
Now the Canadiens are burnt toast. Going into play Sunday, they were last in the division and last in the Eastern Conference with six points despite playing 13 games, more than anyone else in the league.
