from Jonas Siegel of TSN,
There have been many nights early in this Maple Leafs season when, despite the losing score, Mike Babcock has been pleased with his team's process and progress.
Monday was not one of those nights. "We weren't good enough – period," Babcock said after a 4-3 loss to the Coyotes, the club's fourth straight defeat.
Nearly three weeks into the regular season the Leafs remain stuck on just one win. That sole victory came on Oct. 16 against a then-winless Columbus Blue Jackets squad – 10 days before this most recent defeat against Arizona.
This loss looked different in some ways to the previous seven and yet familiar, too.
Perhaps the two biggest weaknesses of the Leafs squad so far, special teams and goaltending were both below-par again on Monday night.
Surrendering two power-play goals over the weekend in Montreal, the Leafs allowed another pair to the Coyotes, who entered the night with the third-worst power-play in the league. Arizona scored on two of its first three opportunities and had a third marker called back.
