Toronto Maple Leafs VS. Montreal Canadiens
The era of the Original Six had some of the most iconic matches of all time, but it ended when the Montreal Canadiens faced off against Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1967 Stanley Cup playoff finals. The Maple Leafs defeated Montreal Canadiens by 3-1 and won their 13th Stanley Cup championship. What’s even more interesting about this memorable final match is that the Maple Leafs have not since appeared in the Stanley Cup finals. To put this in perspective, the team has gone 51 seasons with this championship drought.
Toronto Maple Leafs VS. Detroit Red Wings
The finals in the Stanley Cup in 1942 saw a series of best-of-seven matches between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings. After having lost three matches to the Red Wings, the Maple Leafs made a comeback, winning the next four matches consecutively. This win was their fourth for a Stanley Cup final. What made this game even more memorable was the fact that this was the first Cup to ever go on for a seven-game stretch.
The Five Game Streak
The Montreal Canadiens are one of the original six roster of teams in the National Hockey League. The team cemented itself as one of the all-time best ice hockey teams in the world when it won five Stanley Cups in a row. The five wins spanned from 1956 to 1960. The Montreal Canadiens are the only NHL team with this honor, and no team since has won five Stanley Cups on a hot streak. The fifth Stanley Cup final that took place in 1960 was a particularly memorable game for the NHL fans.
Boston Bruins VS. St. Louis Blues
The two teams played against each other in the 1970 Stanley Cup finals, where the Bruins managed to win the Cup with an impressive 4-0 score. The series-winning goal for the 1970 Stanley Cup was scored by Bobby Orr, who flew through the air after scoring the goal in what is now an iconic moment in NHL history. The smooth goal and the 4-0 streak makes this match one of the best Boston Bruins has ever played for the NHL.
The 1974 Philadelphia Flyers Win
Even though the original six dominated the NHL, the 1974 Stanley Cup Win by Philadelphia Flyers broke their stronghold on the championship. The Flyers became the first team from the expansion roster to have won the Stanley Cup. The victory came at the cost of the defeat of the New York Rangers at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers.
